Just relaying what I know....Talked to kevin on friday night at the wright city rod run. Ronnie was there but was on the phone when I had a chance to chat with them. According to kevin, ronnie is wrapping things up with the engineers and surveyors and is doing something monday with DNR for finalizing all the permits. I asked him about this year and he said as long as they can get the track down they will do some racing this year. Obviously not everything will be done but hey its better than Gateway.

The weather usually allows us to race untill November, sometimes late November. Not enough time for a series, but still enough time to get some rubber down for next year. I wouldnt complain about a month or two of racing.

I spoke to Ronnie for about half an hour today to give me an update on the construction progress. The main points are that the survey is done, the elevation grade in place, and they are waiting for permits from the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Corp of Engineers. They do not expect any problems or issues with these. Ronnie said he hopes they will get the permits in the next week or so and once the permits are received they can start excavating, and he has already met with excavators and the dirt yardage has been calculated. He estimates the bare bones track can be open in 60 days by October 1 – if there are no big rains or anything to further delay them. The Corp of Engineers is involved due to a blue line (waterway) on the property, and in order to do any kind of construction when that is the case, a permit has to be issued and they have to put an equivalent acreage of wetlands back in somewhere. They are working with Matt Roth of On Site soils to design the wetlands.
DNR’s approval is needed to get a ground disturbance permit which necessitates an erosion control plan. This includes retention issues, settlement fences, etc.
The quarry is on standby with a lot of rock ready to go. They have to put 12” under the track and altogether they will require 116,000 tons between the strip, parking, etc.
Frank from NHRA and all the “cuts and fills numbers” are complete.
Ronnie will let me know when they are ready to start going and I’ll be up there with a camera and video. : )
Ronnie, if I’ve got any of these terms wrong let me know!
