Was at the divisional race in Topeka over the weekend. Heard the same stories, NHRA wants that track open in the worst way. They want that National event back there bad!! Spoke to several guys (NHRA staff) that all said that it will have a national event there in October of next year. Story is they are to close on the property at the end of the month and then it's time to get things back up and running. Another story that I heard out there is that there will be a ground breaking ceremony at the MAR Park the 20th of October. I guess we'll just have to wait and see......

I was by there also if they close at the end of this month(Wed)they couldn't get the the grounds ready by Oct 1st. much less any other part of the track. Is Jerry Clinton the supposed wealthy guy with SCCA connections who might have bought the track? ? So many rumors so many lies. I don't know about "ground breaking" but Ronnie intends to put up "Future Site of MARPARK"type signs after P&Z approval on Sept. 20th

New to the forum but trying to keep up on the latest info regarding GIR. This was in the Belleville News Democrat today:
Possible purchase? Interest revs up for shuttered racetrack
Parties interested in possibly purchasing the shuttered Gateway International Raceway in Madison have been in contact with at least one attorney representing one of the track's land owners.
Last week, attorney Bob West, of Paster, West and Kraner in St. Louis, said there is "definitely interest from other parties."
"The owners are continuing to work with various interested parties in an effort to find a quality buyer to keep the track open," West said.
West represents Ruth Franke, who is one of the three people who own land where the track is located.
Gateway International Raceway opened in 1996 and operated until last fall, when owner Dover Motorsports in Delaware closed the track. Dover Motorsports purchased Gateway International Raceway in 1998, the year after the metro-east track held its first NASCAR race.
Oover time the track failed to lure NASCAR's top-tier races, and declining profits eventually decreased the track's value. Last fall, Dover Motorsports announced that the track would not host any NASCAR events for the 2011 season. Gateway International Raceway was closed soon thereafter.
Dover Motorsports closed another one of its properties, Memphis Motorsports Park in Millington, Tenn., in October 2009. It was sold last January and has been renamed Memphis International Raceway.
Earlier this month, Dover Motorsports announced that its Nashville Superspeedway, located in Lebanon, Tenn., will not host any NASCAR events in 2012.

so no one knows if it has been sold for sure? What ever happens there I hope they know how to run and promote the track. If they are going to be NHRA again how would that effect MAR Park? Would it be just just sanctioned NHRA? Can MAR Park be NHRA and IHRA sanctioned and would there be any benefits in doing so?

I truly doubt either sanctioning body would allow cosanctioning on each others track and what would be the point? Most if not all cars can race on each others track why would you pay dual fees to both bodies? It has pretty well been stated that MARPARK will be an NHRA track from the beginning. As I have stated from the beginning GIR is a legal ratsnest that no clear thinking businessman would involve himself with unless he is stealing it.Apparently no one at this point is allowing theft! I would like to see GIR reopen as it is a terrible waste of assets but I still think if sold it will be for some other use than a dragstrip.

Bob West is the attorney that wanted as much for that 5 acre plot on the northwest corner of the circle track as the other owners together wanted for all their property when the Al Anabi organization was looking at the track a couple of years ago. Now that Dover walked away and the first couple of tire kickers walked away after hearing the price tag, he has gotten smart and reasonable.

the county and city of Madison has gotten reasonable too.Tax debt has been reduced and next year annual taxes will be adjusted to keep it open and profitable . They are stealing it because someone has the cash to do it right and 1 individual ,not open trade market .State is making connsessions for more road access's. Also heard shredder on west side is out of business ,GIR been trying for that for years.
