So far all I hear is more BS, have seen nothing to make a person think that the tax burden has been lessened or that the state is giving concessions on anything as they are owed a huge chunk of bonding money or did I miss the announcement that the state forgave that debt? The new owner if there is one should have at least by now stuck his head out of the foxhole to judge public support if nothing else! Rumors Rumors Rumors

yyes the tax issue has i think been a blessing, and at the last i was told that the guy from scca was the lone purchaser of the whole facility? but the above report , apears to either be amiss, or leaves on to beilve the facilty is now at a stalled state of affairs, in trying to find an owner still,!! ? number i was told that this owner' had purchased the facilty ,and land acqusition, at a total cost of under 5 mil, including he was to pay partial tax . it appears , we are going to wait a little while longer for someone to puirchase this facilty

I heard 6.5 mil buys the place and takes care of the tax issue. Maybe if somebody is buying the place, they don't want to make an announcement until it's a 100% done deal. Maybe they've been watching this fiasco. Remember everybody getting excited when MAR was offically breaking ground almost a year ago? Sometimes it's better to keep things under your hat. Why would a new owner have to judge public support of an existing track? He knows what the place was capable of before.
As important as we racers would like to think we are, We don't pay the bills at a facility the size of GIR. The money gets made at the "minor majors" as we called them. The Black Sundays, Monster Mopars, Muscle Car Reunions, Midnight Madness and events like them.

Road racing doesn't require nearly as much grandstands, and part of the tax formula was a butt tax (number of seats X a set %. Look to see a good portion of the grandstands around the circle track and the non road course portion of the oval go away. Look to see drag racing 3 weekends, road racing 1 weekend type schedule. Dennis is correct about the events that bring in money (spectators) for the track.

What's that I heard at Indy over the weekend? Could it be an October date on the NHRA national event schedule for Gateway? Hear people talking about MARPark also, and rumors of an 1/8 mi. track at Effingham, IL.?

next may be busy for us, thats true, as for any nhra schedule at g r w r we will see here soon as schedule come out, ? i am told that this owner has to open grwr this year ,and have some kind of racing action to be a viable track option for nhra next year, from what we see thats not being done,, it will be hard pressed to have 'action ' this year, nhra schedule come out real soon now the the nationals are in the books, as for mar park, this will be built at least we will have 1 new facitlity to race at next year!!

this was on the competition plus website today Monday, 05 September 2011 17:25
Sources indicated the NHRA will release their 2012 schedule this week. From what we hear, the schedule will include a stop in St. Louis during October. As for Epping, we hear that it is a definite for 2013.

Has anyone drove by gateway is any security guards around if Gateway was going to open even next year wouldn't you think someone would be there changing something signs or promoting it as opening 2012 . So many rumors so little time before cold weather shuts all of our fun for the year down.

Johnny Gray in running to purchase St. Louis drag strip The Agent confirmed with a source close to both Johnny Gray and the people involved in trying to sell the property and infrastructure of the former Gateway International Raceway that Gray has, indeed, made a serious offer for the track located in Madison, Ill. The offer includes paying off past taxes and debts and even future taxes. Gray said he would spend the necessary money to upgrade the track and keep it running.
There is another bidder for the track from the St. Louis area, reportedly a lawyer with an interest in opening and maintaining the facility’s road course for SCCA and other road racing series.
According to the Agent’s source, Gray’s bid for the facility offers considerably less for the actual land the track is on than Chris Pook, who is representing the trio of landowners on whose land the racing facility is built, wants.
The Agent has talked to several people who claim to know exactly what is going on with the Midwest track, but this explanation seems to make some sense. One thing is positive: If or when the deal is closed, the NHRA has made it very clear that they will award the new owners an NHRA national event. That fact alone probably insures that someone will end up buying the property. Evidently the only snag in the line these days is the price a willing buyer

well if its not done real quick wont have one for next year, the schedule come out in @ week so if its not on next year that means 2013 before it come back to st lou Schedule usually comes out at Indy and they announce it there. I was at Indy this year and didn't hear a thing about it. Which to me either means that one they are working to get the deal done before they publish a schedule for 2012 or the deal isn't going to happen anytime this year. Now is the time to get nervous..
