Happy birthday Bret K on the 24th. Now for the Slam You tube had a piece by bret saying bracket racing was dead and this new index racing that everyone could get in on at a low price .True is was .That clip has been removed by poster . But very few showed up and then payouts were very low because of turnout .Spectators were very low also . I did 2 of them to test car . Local media will only cover a nat event wether drag or circle . Nhra wouldn't even give us coverage . Big problem was the public relations for GIR Brandon Mudd and Sam Martin didn't care for brackets only and rarely printed anything . website was far behind current info . Will Bret have a chance to promote all if the track reopens ,wait and see ,I hope so for the track ,racers and spectators .

Memphis is back online, they wound up having to grind the track from start to finish because of what happened to the surface after sitting for a year. Gateway looks worse than what Memphis did, and before it's operational again, it will have to be reground, and most likely repaved beyond the concrete.

Gateway looks worse than what Memphis did, and before it's operational again, it will have to be reground, and most likely repaved beyond the concrete. A lot of the issues at Memphis stem from the flood that hit them earlier this year or last year. Most of the place was under water and everything had to be re-done. From the concession stands to the restrooms, the tower and even the offices, everything pretty much had flood damage. The reason they had to grind the track was from water damage caused by the flood not because it sat idle. I've heard the same stories as everyone else that Gateway is in bad shape past the concrete transition and it comes from them grinding it to make it smooth enough for the brass at NHRA, and that the aggregate is supposedly coming up in the asphalt. I guess we will just have to wait and see what exactly does happen and what it looks like if they ever do re-open.

well cant say that looking at memphis is any diffrent than that of gwrw, recent pics, as for aggregate exsposed, idono? the real issue is , will the track open this year ,yet? or not? everyone i have talked to says yes it will still open this year! has alot to do with next years nhra events, and its one of those conditions, stated to the new owner, all we can do is wait n see what develops,

why would the track sitting idle hurt the racing surface? It is no different than tracks up north that sit for many months through the wrong winter.

Sitting idle during the winter, vegetation is dormant, here the vegetation is growing and doing damage. Also the sun and heat are doing their thing to a surface that has been neglected.

This brings up a question. I have never run down a new track. Is the new asphalt slick for a while since it is oil based? I realize they spray the track but what about breaking loose at high speeds say 1/8m to finish?

remem in 1997 when they had the spring sportsman open....they only put 5 or 6 jegs sq cars in the wall, since the track was so fresh and green...

why would they asphalt CID now?....there is only approx 6 more race dates?.....then have the new surface subjected to the winter weather?
or will that help cure the surface, sitting over winter?

High horsepower cars have problems with green tracks once they get off the concrete. Part of the problem is that the groove (stickiest part of the track) is narrow, and if the car drifts at all, then it gets slick. If you ever watch an aerial shot of a funny car or top fueler, and you can see how if it drifts out of the groove at all, then the tire that still is in the stickier surface will drive the car away from it (further out of the groove).

there are so many issues thats goes into what make a car 'stick ' to the track, most likley the track can have little to do with it, alltho, the track does have to be properly prepaired, ,the adrl has now adopted that the entire track from wall to wall be treated, thereby eliminating the 'groove' effect caused by just treating the center of tracks, tires , pressure, type of suspension, and with the development of these higher hp cars the need for better tires must be looked at . natural tq will drive the high hp cars and even dropped cylinders concrete is the best surface, asphalt being the worse surface do to oil comming to the top gwrw should have been complete concrete, 1 pour,, (ie, texas motorplex) if havana does this asphalt ,i might be a mistake, it needs to be a concrete ,at least to the 660 mark, and then extend the shutdown area , as much as possiable
