If there was anyone who knew and were inclined to fess up we'd probably know by now as well as most people keep information to themselves.

From Dragracingonline.com
St. Louis track could be open in 2012. NHRA would have October race On the NHRA front there is a lot of talk about the Gateway Raceway track at St. Louis, formerly owned by Dover Entertainment, re-opening soon. The Agent talked to Rod Wolter, who is helping to facilitate the purchase of the track, who said the purchase is moving along, but slowly.
There are three different owners of land parcels the facility sits on who have to be dealt with and even when that issue is done it will take a considerable amount of time to refurbish and re-open the track.
What is verifiable is that there’s a tentative agreement (nothing is signed) with the NHRA and the potential new owners of the facility for an NHRA national event to return to the St. Louis track in October of 2012.

My source is "in the know" and it is a 7 year tentative agreement at that.... But, I won't be the one to leak any other details.

And still is not racing from what I heard . Also remember GIR rules if heat index or temps was over 99 no racing .So you could have kissed July and now Aug goodbye . Chances April May too wet .June looked better .

when i was at tri city i had 5 people come and tell me , heay youknow gateway was going to have test tunes at the end of this month, told them yep end of aug,, next year!! look i try to be very positive, , i ve heard almost everything rumored about the track, i have repeated some of those, posted alot about it, yes the track will reopen, at some time, , i have seen the pics ,and what looks like a track that not even close to opeing, , in fact not as bad as one sees, its the issue of time, it would take a crew of 20 people every day 6 days a week for a month and someone to get the electronics and electrical the same amout of time to get that track up and going , this year, could it happen sure , will it no!! thats my answer now!! my greatest fear is if that track stays shuttered longer most of will not keep driving farther to race, due to economics , and how late the racing goes ino the night, if you race til midnight , and you drive 2 hours to get there, its 2 am before you get home ! as you see now most tracks are having issues with car counts and spectators,

When Penhall came in to grind the surface to make it smooth they had to grind off so much off the aggregate is exposed and chunking up. If that's the case that means it would have to be roto milled and resurfaced. Ahh.. the plot thickens. If this does happen I don't look for anything to happen this year on the drag strip side at all. The attorneys are trying to hash everything out but one of the land owners had the property set up in a trust fund and there are issues with getting that part of the deal done. I hope whoever is buying it is truly serious and knows what he's in for.

By the way did anyone happen to see that the wonderful corporate a$$holes at Dover have now closed the Nashville facility as well? The same scenario as they pulled at Gateway, Dover Motorsports and Nashville Speedway has declined any participation in any and all Nascar races in 2012 and has ceased operations. I just wonder if the dragstrip down there is affected as well. I believe they all sat on the same property.

dover is a dying company,in the motorsports world, they have no idea how to run a beach ball turney. let alone dragrace/or a nascar race nor do they have anyone in the company that even able to spell it, it a shame, they should stay in the casino buis, hard to scew that up!! i mean after all, people just come in and give you thier paychecks, you give them a handle to puill easiest game around as for the drag strip there if they have it it will close too
