This from www.dragracingonline.comSt. Louis drag strips in the news The Agent found a pigeon wearing a lampshade carrying a message in his beak in the Phlegm Building coop on Sunday night after his Father’s Day celebrations. A look at the message through reddened eyeballs (the result of ingesting some bad ice at his Father’s Day party) revealed a scrawled note that said the five landlords who own the parcels of the Illinois land that Gateway International Raceway is built on are now the owners of the track, all of its equipment and, unfortunately, the debt that was left on the property when the Dover Entertainment folks folded their operations. The Agent also hears the gentleman who formerly owned a quarter-mile circle track in the St. Charles, Mo., city limits has broken ground on a new eighth-mile drag strip west of St Louis along I-70. No official conformation of this rumor yet, though

the gateway rumors will die until oct ,nov it will heat up more , when all the schedules for national events gets posted, rumors are already floating that there will be at least 2 less events on the nhra tour next year, due to very poor attentance rumors of the adrl are just rampant, race to race, , mccamis made statement regaurding the sponcorships dealings, and al-anabi, going back to the 'core' drivers, i think we will see that the local tracks that take care of the racers, some will grow intensly and will be very sucessfull taking things back to the roots of dragracing

Dennismopar is right customer service(spectator and racer) is what is going to separate the winners from the loser's @ racetracks and most other businesses' with there being limited dollars for all of us to spend who are you gonna spend it with, if you're like me it's gonna be with the folks who make me feel like they appreciate my business.

Gateway International Raceway in St. Louis to re-open? Apparently the shuttered Gateway International Raceway located in Madison, Ill., just across the Mississippi River from downtown St. Louis is on the verge of re-opening.
Last year the four owners of the land the facility is built hired the original developer of the multi-use auto racing facility, Chris Pook, and former general manager of the track, Rod Wolter, to resolve the back tax issues and find a buyer. Reportedly the two men have been successful.
According to our source, a wealthy St. Louis local businessman with ties to the Sports Car Club of America is in the last stages of finalizing a contract. This would not be the first time that persons connected with the SCCA have invested in the Gateway property.
If the deal does go through, that would almost certainly mean a re-opening of a weekly drag racing program and a return of St. Louis to the NHRA schedule. Stay tuned. [06/24/11]
