if they build it they will come. That is such a true statement. Like km69stang said there are cars already built. Some of these have been sitting storage since Pevely closed. So, yes we have more than enough racers. Thats ashame if cars have been sitting since pevely days ,more cars have been sold since pevely and mar days . How many years has Pevely been closed ? How many years has Mar been closed ? I believe many could be looking at other forms of Recreation now and if a qtr mile track doesn't open this year more will sell . Anybody know someone or of a website for Memphis to hear how they did and are doing after reopening ?

@ mouthracer I went to high school with a guy by the last name of Hooker. He graduated in 1990 and built a pink and white dragster. I seen it for sale by him at Twin City Days in Festus. That was maybe one or two years ago. And yes i agree that it is a shame these cars sit. But, the good part is some can be made street cars. And these cars can be bought cheap.

Pevely closed in 1993 during the flood and never reopened. MAR closed in October of 2004. Seen way to many cars sold or even scrapped since those days. One thing about MAR, if you paid your money to get in the gate they were going to let you run. Worked there in 1991 at different tasks from tech to starter while I was building my Beretta, some of the junk I saw going down the track I wouldn't want to be in front of going down the highway.
There was an El Camino I think late 60's early 70's that ran there every weekend. I think that car weighed 3500lbs at the start of the season but every time he would go down the track he would leave 10 lbs of rust on the starting line so by the end of the season it probably only weighed 2500lbs. Every time he came to the line we would stop to clean the starting line because he left a pile of rust on the line.

Does anybody remember the '65 or '66 4 spd. Mustang that used to race at MAR that used to leave some of itself at the starting line all the time? I remember one time that it left the drive shaft, both u-joints, and I think it sheared the leaf spring bolts, and it took a floor jack to get it off the thrack.

I think you guys are talking about the light blue mustang? If so it was owned by Rich Maupin and was sponsored by Randys Ford Specialties. The car was actually a 68 Fastback. It was a 4 speed for several years but did change to an automatic after a bunch of parts destruction.

Randy Dickherber built a 462 Olds engine for me back in the late 1980's. He was a little squirelly, but I thought he was a pretty good guy. He had a yellow Fast back with a 4 speed that he took me for a ride in one time; scared the crap out of me!!

Yeah, Randy was quite a character. I actually worked for him a couple times and always had a good relationship with him over the years. I think he is still around in the area, but havent talked to him in awhile. He knew his old Ford's that is for sure.

I was thinking about a tan or carmel colored coupe, sat just a little high, had shackles on the back.
