Is it me or is this a kick butt day to do some racing. Oh, is the new track supposed to be 1/8 or 1/4 mile? I think it is a little breasy out there, depending on the direction that you are driving. Yesterday would have been better! The new track will be 1/4 mile.

I know it's tough to be patient, but that's all we can do for now.
It takes as long as it takes to get the gates open. Hopefully it will be before summer is over, but any progress is a good thing. Where else are you gonna go locally? Sikeston is a nice track, but I'm in Barnhart and it's 110+ miles south of me. Since money is tight it limits how much I have to spend on trips like that.
I'll never claim to be a hardcore racer, I do it when I can because I enjoy it (you know, fun). I get to run my car hard and not get a ticket or spend a night in jail. lol Winning is definitely fun, but cheering on the buddies that don't get eliminated is fun too.

If you build it they will come. It is interesting that you use that exact quote. It is from my favorite movie "Field of Dreams". Two weeks ago, Ronnie and I went up to Tri-State Raceway in Eddyville Iowa, to check out a track that we were told about that had several neat ideas. On our way up there, we realized that is is only 10 miles away from Dyersville, where they shot the scenes for that movie, so we stopped by for a quick visit after our visit to the track and we both joked about that phrase as a slogan. The owner of the track was very helpful and open about things that he has learned running the track and may even come down and give us a hand setting some things up. If you are ever up that way stop by and see his facility and tell him we sent you. I am glad my quote was something you and ronnie had allready discussed. That quote sums up how I have felt about this track all along. I am glad you are here to calm down the masses and keep the rumors at bay. I am excited to meet you at groundbreaking.

I think that they may both be at least to some extent. There has been some decline in some of the series and tracks across the country, but that is mostly the national events from what I understand. Due to many factors, but including fuel costs and the economy in general. As far as "build in and they will come", the cost of fuel while it will keep guys from traveling, if there is a local track, i have no doubt that they would support it. It wasnt that long ago that there were 3 local tracks (Gateway, MAR and Pevely). Now there are none (Sikeston, but that is a not really local). There are a lot of local racers and cars already built and just looking for a place to race. More than enough in the opinion of those looking to open this track. In my opioion and the theirs, there would have been more than enough to support this track in addition to Gateway. THese plans began before anybody thought Gateway was in trouble and doesnt really effect these plans if it would reopen. If it doesnt reopen, we are even more confident that there will be more than enough racers to support the new facility, especially when they see how this track will be run and operated.

I know there is a large demand here and a bunch of us who raced at MAR, but thought GIR was too far for anything other than large events.

Drag racing is a form of entertainment, and therefor has to compete with other forms of entertainment for money. St. Louis has baseball, football, hockey, and the casinos all fighting for a piece of the pie. Kansas City is sortof in the the same boat. That leaves the middle of the state with the fewest competitors for that entertainment dollar, and makes drag racing, and stock car racing much more popular, if that's the way you'd want to put it. So a track away from the city centers, but still accessible to them is a good idea. Right now, St. Louisians have Benton, IL., Sikston, MO., and Havana, IL. as the closests tracks. MARPark will be a really good fit for the whole region, and if Gateway reopens, think of the possibility of a Missouri State I-70 corridor points series between three tracks, Gateway, MARPark, and KCIR!

I will probably take my car to KCIR-MOKAN-Sikeston-ORP or a few others but I will not drive 3 hours just to watch, except for a major event. If there were a local track, I would race the car more and wouldn't mind taking the family to watch our friends when we couldn't race. Once I got the car built, we were at GIR quite a bit. With and without the car.

yes fuel prices have a good deal to do with car count,i grin and bear it,i go to other tracks until a local track is running, and i keep in race mode and fresh in the seat,i can hit the practise tree all i want, but its totaltlly different in the car,and yes we are entertainers too

if they build it they will come. That is such a true statement. Like km69stang said there are cars already built. Some of these have been sitting storage since Pevely closed. So, yes we have more than enough racers.
