If you build it they will come. It is interesting that you use that exact quote. It is from my favorite movie "Field of Dreams". Two weeks ago, Ronnie and I went up to Tri-State Raceway in Eddyville Iowa, to check out a track that we were told about that had several neat ideas. On our way up there, we realized that is is only 10 miles away from Dyersville, where they shot the scenes for that movie, so we stopped by for a quick visit after our visit to the track and we both joked about that phrase as a slogan. The owner of the track was very helpful and open about things that he has learned running the track and may even come down and give us a hand setting some things up. If you are ever up that way stop by and see his facility and tell him we sent you. Did you go to Eddyville Raceway Park in Eddyville or tri state raceway in earlville IA?

Actually, you are correct, it is Tri-State in Earlville. My bad.

i here people make comments here and moaning and groaning about other tracks are ran but at the end of the day the expenses will need to be paid and that should be on their minds first more than anything else like how much is hot dogs are going to cost and the payout for first placeect ect ect.

Let's REMEMBER the negative people, and when the time comes Turn them away at the gate! MARP WILL HAPPEN! Yeah, right. that sure makes a whole lot of sense. You ae going to turn people away at the gate? Come on, get real. Who is going to turn down money at the door?

i here people make comments here and moaning and groaning about other tracks are ran but at the end of the day the expenses will need to be paid and that should be on their minds first more than anything else like how much is hot dogs are going to cost and the payout for first placeect ect ect. I am still not exactly sure what it is that you are trying to say here. I think there are a couple different things. First, people have complained about the way racers have been treated at some tracks. That has more to do with the attitude that is displayed than anything and listening to the customer to at least TRY and give them what they want. This would include everything from the classes that are offered, the days of the week that the programs are ran as well as just being friendly. These things will have a negative effect on the bottom line if done wrong, but will help it if done correctly. That is what many have asked for and MARPark intends to do their best to deliver. WHen it comes down to food and amenities at the track, it boils down to not making the racers and spectators (the customers again) feel that you are trying to take advantage of them. The track doesnt need to charge $6.50 for a burger when we all know what they cost at sams to purchase. If you try to tell me it has to cost that much, now you are going to piss me off because i know better. That is how some places (baseball stadiums and movie theatres as well) do nothing but upset people with that attitude. In addition, that does nothing but make it rough for a racer or a spectator to take his family out for the day. That is why I think some of these things have come up. The partners know that they have to make money in the end to keep the gates open, but you dont have to try and get rich on each burger sold. They have a comprehensive business plan that deals with all of these things and has enough of a profit margin built in that will assure that the track makes enough money to stay in business and provide a place to race for many years to come. I hope that addresses your concern.

Your saying weather will have alot to do with it . With what ? When Eolia was 1st announced and their was opposition ,then their was those favored it .IT WILL GET BUILT THEY CAN"T DO ANYTHING NOW . Then few neighbors files suit ,we are out of here . Has a new site been found? So sounds to me this is being built very quietly . If the land has been equired and a agreement worked out .Let your following know . What concrete info can be published on this site ? Thanks

Thanks Everything that is concrete and can be published, has been already. There is a new piece of property that has been found, and the last few details are being worked out with it as we speak. That was announced a little over a month ago. Until then we WILL NOT announce where it is. We are getting closer all the time. We are basically waiting on the lawyers to finish their job, nothing else we can do at the moment. We believe that there is basically no possibility of any objections from neighbors this time, so the new location should work out even better than the Eolia property. When those details are finished, we will have a ground breaking and other majaor announcements. As soon as that occurs, weather becomes a factor as it is in all constuction projects. The plan is of course to still get up and running this summer, but exactly how that works out will have to be seen. We will be making regular updates with projected dates later, but it is still too early. All we can all do is stay patient at the moment.

Yes that is expensive, But when it comes to pricing, let's say you can get it cheap at Sam's. You have to pay for the gas and time to go get it. You have to cover the price of the freezers running to store it. You have to pay for the Electricity to light the concession stand, the gas to cook the product and the wages of the employees in the stand. You also have to cover any spoilage and the product that gets cooked but not sold at the end of the night. Then there's mops, towels, cleaners and other supplies. You have to have a food License.
That's why Ovations would close early at some GIR events. They would not make enough money to cover the employee wages that late. They also had 2 full time employees on grounds everyday. Somebody get's paid to do inventory, ordering and payroll.
When it comes to the wages, you have to pay them for set up and clean up time also.
Illinois is $8.25 an hour. I don't know what MO is. Then there is Workman's comp, taxes and whatever else the gov can get from you.
So if you have 3 people in the stand, 1 cooking, 2 filing orders and taking money, you are paying $24.75 an hour in wages. Let's say gates open at 11am and you run till 9pm. 10 hours. That's $247.50. Add in the other expenses and you could be looking at over $500 in expenses easily.
I'm a member of the Lions Club. We set up a stand at our towns 4th of July celebration. We sell brat's, porkburgers, hot dogs, corn on the cob and baked potatoes. We make a profit of about $500 on a 3 day event. All of our workers are volunteers. Granted we are not the only food vendor.

the prices wasnt any big deal, no diffrent than going to a show buying popcorn/candy bars and soda there you can go to a good steak house or seafood place easily spend over 100.00 to eat out wasnt worried about the price at the stands ,

The one thing I found completely out of line was the price of a bottle of soda. I would've paid $2 but $4? No way.
