I started this thread to get the muffler topic out of the "Early news about the state of the track" section.
Muffler technology has come a long way since the 90's. IMO the original NHRA muffler rule was simply a way for NHRA to make money for a major sponsor. When the rule first went into effect, only mufflers from one manufacturer were accepted. One that had full page ads in National Dragster. Imagine that.
The comment on another thread was the track in Iowa is limiting themselves to street cars with the possible muffler rule. There are mufflers on very fast cars. Look at all the dragsters that run Borla's or similar mufflers.

I ran Dyno Max Silver Bullets on my old 96 Monte Carlo. Actually liked the way it sounded and I only lost a couple of thou in ET, but I haven't ran a Muffler of any type since 1999 and no one has ever said a word to me about it. If I remember correctly I think Gateway used to put up a little extra money to the winner of Super Pro if you had mufflers and a diaper on your car.

Yes, there has been a lot of advancements in muffler technology over the years, but it still has it's limits to volume of airflow. A blown, supercharged, turbo'ed, or fuel burning engine has a different requirement than a naturally asperaited engine. What works on one combination might not on another.
