I was standing by the fence on the pit side right at the spot where the motor let go, biggest fireball from one side of an engine I had ever seen. Then the parts the car left behind on the track, pistons, piece of block and head, ..... Rex had his hands full since blowing both fire bottles did little to knock down the fire.

What a shame!
The Demon was one of my all time favorites. Now my favorite to watch run has to be the Organ Grinder. Not near as fast, but fun to watch!

the demon is hanging in jerry dawsons shop my uncle and buddy jon seen it about 8 months ago. if you where at the fence i was standing close to you the best spot to watch that car was at the finnish line

Yeah, Tinker redid the body fairly quickly after the engine explosion. Rex, on the other hand said he was done driving the Demon. He's done some other projects since then, helped a friend of mine, Mike Kurz with his Duster funny car, and worked with his brother on the Stevens Family AA/FD.

I watched the Demon transform in his shop when we had the Vega there. From what I've been told that 392 had 2500 runs on it when it went and had Rex not slept just a bit at the tree he would have won that last race. You can here on the video when he nailed the throttle. Car had a very distinct sound. An AWESOME machine |
