16Volt vs 12Volt

hey guys, anyone have any opinions they would like to share on 16volt batteries. have super gas/ super pro car with all the normal elecronics.
Been running two 12volts for years with no alternator, considering switching to 1 16volt.

We have been using 2 yellow top optima's 12 volt with no problems and they will be going into 6th year - many say these are junk and you can make them junk by using a conventional battery charge and cooking them - also have 1 in a tractor at my dads place - picked up at a junk yard out of a diesel jeep liberty I think it was and its older than the yelow tops

Very true. I did a screw up years ago and cause a momentary misfire when hit 2nd gear after 2 months of going nuts figuired out had battery problem caused by installer, ME. seemed with acid batteries put in lenthwise the plates would contact and short out. Tried dif coil, dif 7al box, rewired crank trigger, redid all connections, ran with out tach ( thinking short in it ) plug wires, plugs and then at night I saw lights in guages momentary almost go out ffffffing nightmare that was.

Put an alternator on it and leave both batteries in it.

I also run 2 battery's and I made a alt. bracket for the comet and haven't had any problems and it also a 12 volt system. Ronnie

The 16 volt system requires a little rewiring of your electrical system as some components cannot handle the 16 volts. It also takes a special charger.

I run a 16 volt battery and alternator which does require special charger but nothing has to be rewired. Biggest problem is you only get about 3 years out of 16 volt battery. But if motor has any compression 16 volt turns it over very good.
