Any car that runs faster then a 10.90 at any NHRA track must wear a sportsman diaper. A cost of about $169.
The track will be subject to a sizable fine if any car has an accident and does not have one on.
Read this on another site it was posted by a track owner who attended the last nhra meeting. Im all about safety but sounds like a fund raiser to me.

What do you have to wear? If its a jacket that was always a rule, 25 years ago.

Went through 2012 rules amendments, did not see anything about a diaper for 10.90 or faster.

really? i did a quick search and didnt come up with anything.
the nhra wont be completely happy until all of us grass roots racers can no longer afford to race anymore. rules , rules, rules..you also have to replace window nets every 2 years now as well. say a racer has all of the sfi/nhra requirments. they are in a bad accident and one of these required safety items fails, does the nhra/sfi take full responsibility for it? nope. the NHRA is alot like the govt in my opinion. the only thing they are worried about is John forces next tv interview.

I personally think it's NHRA trying to help out the diaper makers. . . .. . they pulled the same crap a few years ago with parachutes. . .. dropped the requirement to 135mph. . . remember that That would make a 10.0 car have to install one.. . . . lots of 10.0 cars now-a-days. . . sold thousands. Then year before last, NHRA changed the rule again, raised the rules back up to 150mph. . . It don't take much brains to figure that one out, now does it

I haven't seen anything on this at all. I think it's another one of those urban myths that get started and get out of hand real quick. Last summer it was that anyone running 7.99 and quicker had to have a Hans Device and a 32A-15 suit. Turns out that was only for Top Sportsman and Top Dragster. I'll talk to a few of the NHRA guys I know and see if there is anything truth to this, although I run Diapers on both my cars it's a pain in the ass when you have to service your stuff it does keep everything off the track for the most part.

I can tell you a diaper saved my car and maybe me. Rod cap went through pan and diaper. Pulled me off track and they were able to run as soon as I was clear. By the time we got to the trailer the diaper statred leaking so I drained oil to keep it out of the trailer. I always use one, I think all (race cars) should have one.

I have no issues with the diaper, in fact most should already have one on,it's a smart thing, it saves race cars, injuries, the 'other guy', not to mention some tracks pay you more if you win with one, and it is less time to clean up all that 'syth' oil . On some cars it is a big hassel to put one, but the money I spend on my car, if it saves my car from hitting the wall, or tearing up mine as well as someone elses car,, then I will have one Don't think we need more rules to help the sport get better, we build the cars, and make them go as fast as possable , why not have something that can make it just alittle safer!?
