HaHa! The day I met Benny, He rolled up in his mixer, jumped out and walked straight up to me and said--- where do you want this shit? " fruit " I asked him, who the hell are you? He said, I'm Benny, "ya fruit" I didn't know how to take him until he called everyone else a fruit. We got to be pretty good friends on the job after that.
I thought he passed but wasn't sure.

I ran the starting line back in the early '80's when Fink and Kuykendal ran the facility.

Was it Kuykendal or Andressi? I was pretty involved in racing back in the mid 70's but got away from it for a few years while the kids were real young. Jumped back into it with both feet in 87 when I built my 69 Chevelle, ran that car for a year then built my Vega in 88. Came back to MAR while Fink and Andressi were running it along with the Mitchell Brothers. Led the points most of the year only to have one of the Mitchell guys take off with the points fund.
Brian Hackett and I went to Cedar Falls Iowa to race what was then the Firestone E.T. series, think I went two or three rounds and Mark was driving the Hacketts old 67 Chevy II and destroyed the rear end but did get best appearing crew.
Ran the Vega til I think the end of 1990 and sold it to Pete Jones and while I was building the Beretta, I worked the starting line and what have you at MAR with Tex Tucker, Harry, Bill Moran and I must be getting old cause the rest of the guys slip my mind.

No, it was Lonnie and Bob. Tex was an electrician at McDonnell Douglas back then, he really wanted to get scoreboards put up back then, and even had a way to get them paid for, but Clem was against if for some reason.

Benny "fruit" passed away a while back, Ryan Kuykendall had Fruit on his dragster cockpit in honor of Benny.
