I am very sad to see KCIR go. I have been going there to race or watch on a regular basis since 1988. Looks like I amlooking for a new track to call HOME.
To the person that was flaming Todd Bridges: You obviously have NO idea what you're talking about. Todd worked TIRELESSLY to save the track with little or no help from the current owners. He has busted his butt to keep KCIR open untill a new track could be built. He fought an uphill battle against the crooked city gov't and lost due in NO part to his efforts. I went to as many of these rallys and council meetings as I could and saw the effort Todd put in. You should have all your facts before flaming someone that you apparently do not know.
Sorry for the rant. Not my intention when I came to this site but I felt it had to be said.

Lowery72, I too have spent a great deal of time at KCIR and I am more than upset about the crooked political process that has taken it down. You are right about Todd B. He is a great stand up guy, well spoken, well written, organized, and just a great ethical individual. I am proud to call him my friend would be glad to have him on my side for any reason. You want to "flame" someone? Start with the NHRA Div 5 Director, Rob Parks. As a former owner and despite his letter of "innocence", he is directly implicated in "taking the money and run". Some could chose to call him a thief and a liar and one who should lose his NHRA job...some would... Steve

First off I will take this moment to publicly say that I appologize to Mr Bridges for implicating him as the owner of the property , for that I'm sorry, This deal with KC has been very unfortunate , but it has not just creep up this year! It has been a battle for several years, those are facts , so to say anyone was 'ambushed ' would not be true! True ,the political powers stepped up the 'arm bending'. We all know who was involved , and to what point they was willing to go. As for Mr. Parks , who knows , it could very well be that he had lawyers look at the issue and was told to either ainte up bunch of money to fight , and most likely still lose , or as so many has said he 'cut n run' , I dono, This scenario has been played out several times across the country, there are several drag strips across the U S that are either in the same mess that K C was in, or shortly will be.

Like I said in my post. I didn't come here to ruffle any feathers, I just wanted to introduce myself and maybe get to know a few of the racers that I will hopefully be racing with next season.

I do agree with this statement. I am very puzzled that the owners basically had NOTHING to say throughout this whole ordeal. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt but I am leaning towards the idea that they just stayed quite and let Todd bust his butt this whole time even though they knew there was no saving KCIR or getting a new one built.

Guys, this isn't the first time we've seen this done nor do I feel it will be the last. If everyone will stand back and think a few years back (2004) when the then owners of our beloved MAR knew they were closing that last weekend in October and made the choice not to tell anyone until it was a done deal. I knew something was up that weekend when we all got to the track and Clem had a crew taking down the 8' fence around the place that kept the Elk he was raising in. We all need to face the fact that no matter how much we all enjoy what we do, not everyone feels the same way. It's sad that if you go the NHRA website and look for race tracks (drag strips) now that KCIR is closed Missouri now has none!! Yeah there is Sikeston and Mo-Kan and Rogersville, but we no longer have an NHRA sanctioned track in the state of Missouri. I'll go out on a limb here and say now that KCIR is closed there will now be a sudden outcry because of all the street racing that is going on in the KC area. What the hell do they expect?? They take away every place that we had to go to and then will piss and moan because now kids are getting hurt street racing. You can't have it both ways, there has to be a place that people can go and enjoy our sport just as they do when they go to ball games or any other sporting event. What I find amazing is venues will actually fall all over themselves to get a Stadium built in their community but talk about building a race track and they come out with the pitch forks and torches looking for somebodies head.

If Park is looking for new property to build a track, why is he having an auction? Aren't the aluminum bleachers only a year or two old?

If I read the article right ,Parks looks to be a bigger part of the sale than first believed .

Parks has been looking for a way to get out from underneath KCIR for some time now. It's no secret that since he took the job as Div. 5 director he hasn't devoted the time or energy necessary to make it work. He saw the writing that's been on the wall for several years and I would speculate to say he just said it was time to move on and is doing so. As far as him looking for another place to put a track, why would he do it? He got his money so now he can do whatever he wants. The only way they are going to be able to build a track is to put it out in the middle of no where and pray that Urban sprawl doesn't attack you again. It's what happened to St. Charles Speedway as well as the old MAR. The tracks were there long before the people were. But racetracks dont vote in elections and donate to "THE RIGHT PERSON"..
