Just pulled my motor down this past weekend and I won't hesitate puting it right back together after a hone and fresh rings. It's just too much work finding that perfect set of bearings.
I use nothing but Valvoline VR1 20-50

You guys running alcohol are you using some sort of total seal ring, file fit or just taking a chance on you oil not getting deluted - seen best to run a synthetic if not using some sort of total seal ring

I just run Perfect Circle file fit rings with a low tension oil ring and I do run alcohol. But I also run a vacuum pump on all my motors to help keep some of it down to a minimum. The issues I've had running Total seal gapless rings is that they are very hard on cylinder walls. 200 laps and you have to bore the motor. Since I went to file fit I haven't had that problem. And synthetic is way to pricey if you run alcohol. I change my oil every 10 passes or every other weekend. If I manage to go severals rounds on a regular race I change it every weekend. National and divisional stuff is different, you spend so much time warming your stuff up and they pit you so far away from everything I change it after each weekend doing that.

There was a guy I knew (rest his soul ) that ran Royal Purple synthetic in his alcohol motor. He kept 2 buckets and when he drained his oil he let it set in one bucket to let the water and oil separate out then re-used the oil at the next change. I never could do that but he swore buy it and never had any issues.

Did it for about two races and gave it up, of course he used 16 quarts at a time and changed it every run. A 55 gallon drum for the new another for the used and another at the shop seperating makes for a lot of work.
