Does anyone know of anybody in the Columbia area that rebuilds them? I would love to learn to do it right myself but at this point I just want it done right. I know A D Crane used to, but not sure if he is even still around... Any help would be much appreciated

I think I'd run Fuel Injection before I ran a C&S Carb

C&S isn't close to Columbia, which is what he's looking for. For racing with alcohol fuel, injection is the way to go!

I rebuild carbs for performance parts in granite city and what amazes me is how many get poor info from these so called carb greats. The biggest problem I have found is at idle carb throttle blades open way past the transfer slots and wrong power valves then these carb greats want to fatten them up to mask a problem. Just had a guy that was told to put a 2.5 power valve and go up 10 jet sizes front and rear on a normal asperated motor for the street. My advise is if you look at the transfer slots and they are not a slight rectangle start with .090 drill and drill front blades 1/4 inch back from front, put it back on and see where you are now at idle out of 80 carbs in 2 year have had 1 dope bring 1 back and it was full of crap and he was told when he picked it up that his fuel system needed to be cleaned out and the nasty smelling fuel needed to be dumped - guess what mr zero didn't listen and he got to pay some more. Almost all new carb mixtures are set at sea level and this is slightly on the rich side. Both holley and barry grant ( who holley now owns ) will tell you how to pick the correct power valve for your application. I do favor b.g carbs for the simple reason he took a cheap made carb and did alot of improvements to it, nice fuel bowl sight glasses billet base plates and metering blocks, helicoiled main body at bowl screws for the clowns who think they are tightning lug nuts, for you guys that like vac secondaries look at what quick fuel has - just a turn of a screw for how fast you want secondaries to open. Holley for years has built a carb that was way over priced and warranty just plain sucked since chuck g left them. Look before you go buy quick fuel has nice stuff and priced right. Next time your at a nhra event see if 1 of the prostock guys will let you read 1 or 2 of his plugs - almost white. Fix the problem don't mask it by making up with larger jets.

If you are way past the transfer stot don't expect to be able to set you idle mixture because you are drawing from the enrichment circuit and untill you correct this don't screw with the air bleeds. HERE IS A NICE AID AEM Power 30-4100 - AEM Power Digital Wideband Air/Fuel UEGO These go for around 200$ and well worth the investment and what is nice you don't have to stair at it. 3 colors easy to read red rich - yellow lean and green about where you want it. If you have a question P M me and I will be glad to help you.
