-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- My racing started going to keokuk in 1985. 1 hour away. 2 lane almost the total trip. Then to havana (Midstates) 2 hours away. 1987= curent 2 lane all the way Then MAR 1 1/2 or so with 4 lane most of the way that was great. 1995= to the end Then Gateway 2 1/4 to 2 1/2 with no good way with out major traffic. 2002-2010 Eddieville 2 1/2 - 2 3/4 hours with 2 lane some and now 4 lane all the way. 2003 - current Cordova 2 3/4 - 3 hours 2 and 4 lane mix 2004- curent Indy 5 - 5 1/2 hours 2000 - curent. All of these times are 1 way. All of these are the local tracks that I have raced at. sence starting racing. St. louis Racers Just never knew how good they had it. So Start supporting the local tracks that are keeping the sport going. Also support the new ideas that need money to get off the ground. Do not complain about the travel all of us racers that have been doing it for years don't want to hear it. The land is Cheaper the farther you get from STL. So all the racers up here would love a new track as close to us as possible. Us racers up here have spent more on gas, tow viehiles and nice trailers than most other racers. Due to the extreme travel that is requred to do the sport we love. I could not believe the complaining of the gas prices over the last couple of years from the local racers. WOW. Thanks C.S.I. I don't have a home track, run a circuit with other nostalgia racers, so it's all travelling, west to Tulsa, east to Norwalk, this year south to Memphis, north to Union Grove. Those are the longest trips from home.

I don't own a nostalgia car "YET". But I drive a couple of hours down to the HAMB drags at Mo-Kan in Asbury every year just to watch. I love watching a straight axle, 4-speed car with a little hp try to launch and then shift through the gears down the track. Watched Zorbos Ghost do a 180* off the line. WOW! ;D

what i have to say about travel time comlaining is this. Some of us have kids and a household to take care of. For me i have just enough cash to build a VW bug. Why a bug they are the cheapest to race. i simply cant spend the money for a crew cab truck, covered trailer, gas for the truck and car, entry fee, and food for the family every weekend. Not even once a month to race at a track 2,3, or 5 hours away. If you guys can afford it good. Ill just build a nice street car or 4x4 and call it a day.

There's no reason that you can't race a street car at the track.
Are you gonna be the fastest one there? No, but you can still win your class or at least have fun racing.
Are you gonna win money? No, but most don't anyway.

flodeezul, As with any racing, a VW can get pretty expensive also. If you start building 250+ hp, you have to build the car to handle it. Sand and dirt is pretty forgiving but pavement will kill a VW tranny. A built 091 for my 2276 turbo is around $3000.00 from Rancho. That does not include clutch, c/m axles, cv's, stubs, clutch management system. Or you can just get a Mendeola for about $6000.00 on up and be done. I have been watching Al Shelton race VW's since the old M.A.R. days and have seen all the learning destruction first hand. But I do get 25-28 miles to the gallon. ;D

I guess I should qualify my response, depending on the class you run in makes a difference whether you're gonna win money. Alot of street cars run trophy class and there's no money to win there. lol ;D

never said what to race.
I'm up for what ever you build.Front wheel drive truck, vw and what ever you bring. just saying that for us up here we have been traveling for years and years. Yes, I do have a faimly also a three and eight year old. But the guys that are complaining about fuel etc. and 20 min drive.. need to rebimer how lucky they were to have a track so close. That a guy that had built a car that was not steetable. only needed a open trailer and a truck big enought to pull what ever the had. and a 10 -30 min drive. we have always had to have nice stuff to get to the track let alone the car we had broght to race.
have have had to make large scrafices to keep doing the sprot i love. Alway driving a truck that might not get a good of gas milage around town so I could pull a trailer a long haul on the weekend/ not see my family on somedays that I wanted to race because I left before they got up. Then got home after they were in bed.add 4-6 hours onto the race day. and then a part of the day before macking sure that you were all loaded and ready to go at 3-6 am. Morst of the time in last couple of year unless I could stay the night and get another day in it was not worth the 150 in fuel that it took to get to and from the track. Also I alway bought back after driving 2-3 hour I was never leaving after first round. that is what make the track money buy back and spend money on consessions. We used to bring our on food but now we supported the track and bought food there. Every one need to remeber that is what kees the gates open. not bringing your own food buy fuel ate the track etc, but 5 buck at gate way for metanal was way to much. when you could buy it anywhere else for 2-3. So if they do get a track going some where. remerber what keeps track open is the racers spend money at the track.
Thanks csi quincy
