To me the?is this the last improvement you are ever going to make to the car? If not improve the chassis/cage combo to your last likely combo's performance will probably be easier and less expensive in total. Easier being the keyword here.

A good chassis man can get a cage in to where everything still fits. It will take a little longer, and cost a little more, but the quality and strength will be higher.

If you can pass with a 6 point, can you make the door bars bolt on to a sleeved piece welded to the hoop bar? That way they could be unbolted and taken out at any time. Just a thought!

Well in my opinion if you're going to put a cage in you may as well make it a good one. I believe that if you run 10.99 and quicker a cage is required. I have put several cages in "street cars" and they all had complete interiors and stock seats. The best part is that they all passed NHRA tech and were legal to run 9.99 and quicker. Several of these guys built nice pieces for a motor like you did and then they decided they wanted to put a touch of spray to the car and they were going a lot faster than they thought they ever would. Like gdog said if this is going to be thet last thing you do to the car performance wise then just put in a 6 point roll bar and be done with it, but if it isn't, build something now that you wont have to tear back out in a few years to "upgrade" because you're going faster again.

I have a 1982 t/a with t-tops no sub-frame runs 11.87 1/4 mile @112.I put a s&w 8 point cage in the car it did stiffen it up no twist put getting ready to add to it.Should have had a 12point put in the first time just because of the t-tops in case of a roll over no windshield support.Go with the 8 point safety first!!
