Is anyone familiar with this car? It is known as "The Orange Krate", it is a 55 Chevy. This particular car was owned and built by Claude Sherrell. If anyone has any info or pics of this car, please let me know. This car is also known for setting time and speed records at the old Wentzville track. I would appreciate anything anyone can come up with or tell me about this car. Attachments:

I must correct my prior post as I said this car held records for the old Wentzville track, it was the Kansa City track, both e.t. and speed records back in the 70's.

The last "Orange Crate" I remember in this area was an Anglia/English Ford/Cortina that ran on Hall Street late 60's really early 70's I remember a mid 50's Chevy with the name of 'Sniper" that was badass in it's day.

I also remember Curt Wasson or Watson busting one off in the 1st fuel funny car I ever saw but my memory is so crappy(Beam and Miller or Age?) I can't remember if it was Hall St. or Natural Bridge & Mc Kibbon.

I saw the car last fall....it is as gorgious today as the last time you had seen it. Claude set records at KCIR and at Pevely with the car. The car has been stored properly and preserved amazingly well.
427 std bore with Kirn and Fran machine work Hemi 4 speed by Dedmon and McCormack Olds rear end with ladder bars (by Fran) 4100lbs (if memeory serves correctly)
Claude passed away in a small airplane accident, at least 8yrs ago

I am curious to know who you are sc3283? Not to call you out either, but if you saw the car last fall, then you would know that the car is currently going through a refresh and is currently in pieces. Yes, the car was stored properly and after 25+ years of such, it is in the works to come out of hiding. To correct you it is not a std bore, and approximately 3400lbs, everything else you stated is correct. The car is the same as it was all those years ago, except cam change, different rods, a few small upgrades, and very minor modifications. We are slowly but currently bringing the car back to life, which is the reason I joined this site, as we will be looking for a dragstrip to run nostalgia drags at since GIR is closed and looks to be as such for some time. We heard rumor ( I hate that word), that a new MAR was to be built, and after research, i found this site and the fact that it is more than a rumor! It will be great to get a legend ( maybe not a great, but none the less, a legend), out of the dust and back on the strip! Anyone that knows the car, knows that it was originally hauled to the track behind a same color 55 chevy( which is being pro-streeted( but we won't go there)), and more currently and most often hauled to the track on an International hauler. The hauler is being put back on the road as well in the same state that it was taken off of it, with some minor work, such as brake and fuel tank work. Amazing how gas can turn into about 2 inches of hard varnish over 25+ years of sitting. I will post some current pics next weekend of the progress. As I did not know Claude, he started something that I am now part of, may he rest in peace.

gubmt...I hada nice long reply full of FACTS and your incorrect comments pointed out....I deleted it...message boards are NOT for pissing matches between users
I will tell you this..while you were crappin yellow(if your profile info is correct)...I was watching the car race
You need the current owners phone # and address, and name of siblings to prove to you I might just know a bit something to back up my comments???

@ sp7128 The hub covers appear to be made of metal, and as far as Claude being po'ed at the street 55, I couldn't tell you, as I stated before, I didn't know him. sc3283 I know the message board is not a place for a pissing match, it is a place for discussions and conversations! However you do set me off a bit with your response. No I don't need the current owners phone #, I already have it! I don't need the address either, was there Saturday! Don't need to know the name of siblings either, I work for one of them! Rick asked me to ask who you were to see if he knew you, as he is computer illiterate. If I stated something incorrect , then correct me, I will not be offended, that is part of what forums are for. If you know more than I know, then educate me, as the original thread says that is what I am looking for, facts that I don't know about the history of the car. So if you took my response as me pissing in your Cheerios, then you took it wrong, I was just correcting what I thought you had wrong according to my knowledge. You should call Rick and come down and check out the progress of the car, we work on it almost every weekend for a few hours. sp7128 Why was Claude always pissed at the motor in the street car??? F.Y.I. That car no longer has that motor in it, it is currently under construction for a 540ci with an automatic.

ISO for an Accel BEI ignition module box. Anyone that may know where I can find one for the Orange Krate please let me know, as this is the only thing holding us back from making it breathe life again. If we are force to change the ignition system, that will probably not happen this year. I appreciate any help or info from anyone!!!

To anyone who cares or is interested, The Orange Krate breathed life again on 10/15/11 for the first time in roughly 31 years. We had small hurdles to jump, nothing too complicated, and as we are not out of the woods yet with the issues, we are trying to resolve them and get back to race ready conditions.

Good to hear you 2 got it fired...I'll give the owner a call this weekend for an update.
I'm sure Claude had a big ole smile on his face hearing it breath again!
