I have a question for the manual transmission guys out here. This 4-speed staging is pretty new to me. I use a linelock on the front brakes along with my 2-step for staging. What is the best way to try and preload my drive train? Right now I just slip the clutch the best I can. What are some of you guys using and technique?

From what I've seen, nothing. Most guys pre stage lock the line lock bump in and mat the gas, side step the clutch and let it fly. Kind of like a transbrake except they don't have a converter to absorb the shock. They want to hit the tires to get the car to react. One thing for certain they all seem to find the weakest link in their drivetrain when they do it. Which is great because it means more money for my shop.

Get a brake pressure guage so that you are consistant with your brakes each time you stage. A dual disc clutch will let you launch a little easier than a single disc, and still lock up tight once your moving.

I am planning on installing a "Washington ati-shocker" clutch managing system that will help the sudden shock to the drive train but I would still like to have a positive preload on the R/P, axles and joints. Some of my friends are using a CNC staging break on the rear brakes to stage but I don't like the idea of having to let that handle go and then try to grab the shifter.
slingshot, Are you talking about a guage for staging on the front brakes or rear brakes? Please explain. I am currently staging on the front brakes.

Tee the brake line for the front brakes, between the line-loc and the front brakes, if you look on the left A pillar of most Comp, and Pro Stock cars, you'll see the brake pressure guage.

Thanks for the tip slingshot! I thought you were talking about rear brake appplication only. This will be real easy on my car the way it is set up.

Actually most of them are mounted in the dash or on the steering column. At least that's where Bickel mounts them
