Another thing you have to remember, he is a road racer, not a drag racer. His vision is to bring the Rolex series here to St. Louis, have a heavy priority to SCCA and GTP and GTA type racing. A lot of the tax base was based on number of seats available. I would look to see some of the grandstands around the oval track reduced. Of course, one will just have to wait and see what really happens. Right now the thing to do is support him in reopening the track and support Ronnie and crew with their project so that we have 2 tracks within 90 minutes of each other. I agree that there is enough support for both tracks to operate and make money I am just pointing out all the problems that those people are up against, as has been said he is a road racer but I am sure he knows that the the dragstrip has been the only profitable portion of the operation for a long time. Being a racer, hopefully he realizes what it takes to make his customers on both sides of the fence happy. That being said I still think this proposal is hurting and I believe MAR PARK will open before the swamp does I hope all you dyed in the wool GIR guys get your wish to race this year just don't be too PO'd if it don't work out. I saw some of the negativity displayed when MAR got put on hold last Christmastime and it was borderline ugly, like the principals were going out of their way to mess up our lives.

I have been a firm believer in stating " I will believe it when they start selling tickets", but whether or not it is a lease for that specific event, or with the option to buy and do as you please, "Something, is better than, nothing!!!". As far as I see it, if someone walks through the gates at GIR to just pick up trash, that is something and is more than what Dover had planned for the place. We should be happy that SOMETHING is happening there. Not to agree or dis-agree, or to even say something that isn't FACT, I heard or read, that they will do what they can to fulfill the what can or may happen yet this year, and to fill the 2012 racing season with as many events as they can. I hope that they bring it ALL back in time, I mean look at how things went to s#$@ there. Midnight Madness was a good way to bring in money, AND to keep most of it off of the streets where it doesn't belong. Either way, we should be happy that someone has done something with GIR( even if it is just picking up the trash).

Another post to vent with. I hate forums because they turn nice talk into pissing matches, but I MUST vent this one out a little. It does not matter if Curt Francios is a road racer or raced turtles, he is the one buying, leasing, or doing whatever with GIR, he IS in fact the one that can, could decide to do whatever he wishes with the place. We ALL seem to speculate too much on the forum, I am sorry if I offend anyone, I just get so frustrated when we talk about things that we hear and some people have to piss and moan about it. I understand that that is going to happen no matter what because we have pessimist AND optimists on the same subject. Reguardless, I agree you should support your local track, or any track you wish to support for that matter. Racing is racing, it doesn't matter what track you do it on, or if you do it naked even, as long as you do it ON a track. Let us all support Ronnie and Curt, or Ronnie, or just Curt, or even better, let's just support racing itself. I will end my venting here for now, because I have lost my train of thought and it is starting to get ugly with the responses in my head. For those of you who can't tell, I will come right out, right now and tell you, I am not quite right upstairs. But it is all good as I am learning more about racing everyday, and I'm loving it more everyday too. Again, I hope I didn't offend anyone, but if I did, that is life, deal with it how you see fit!!!

You know all about Gateway's income? You know how much the roadcourse and oval brought in? The oval was used quite a lot by nascar teams for testing before it was banned. If the track is bought and does not have a nascar event. The teams can test there again. Did you know- Earnhardt tested the new Monte Carlos there years ago BEFORE they were approved to race? that Chrysler, Toyota and other car manufacturers have used the grounds for dealer demos when new models come out? The state police use the road course for pursiut training? Marlboro rented the facility of a week at a time? The Richard Petty driving school was based out of GIR? They had offices and a full time staff in the infield? Kit Car magazine held a week long event there using the road course, drag strip and auto crossing in the drag pits? Clubs like bmw, porsche and other rent the road course for private events? There is a lot of private rentals that the public never hears about. Some years it was so many that it was a pain in the butt trying to get things done.

Actually it was the General Manager who told me that because of the tax structure the Oval/road course could never make money and the strip was the only consistantly profitable portion of the operation .I know you worked there but as you said "My brother used to tell me things that were going on before I knew them" of course the G.M. could have been lying to me but he really had no reason to.

I like forums because a person can express an alternative opinion just to keep things interesting. I will admit to my elevator not going all the way to the tenth floor either and offending someone is not one of the things keeping me awake at night! Actually nothing keeps me awake at night . And you are absolutely right it is all good.

Just wondering, which one? I wasn't talking about the taxes on the place, just the income that could be made. You could still do all the things I mentioned with little or no stands. That would take a huge amount of the tax burden away and still have the income.

Dennis must take my rantings more personally than I offer them. I think that it would be a huge mistake to take the oval/roadcourse out of the GIR mix as that what sets it apart from any other venue in the area. I don't particularly care for most roundy round racing but I know thousands do. Any way those folks could make money they should and as full an event calender as they can keep is a great way to that. I was pointing out where their known profit was and thinking the investors would be wise to remember it if they get the track open.
