Hey Larry, not to raise a stink but Corey was the Sunday s/p track champion at MAR in 1997 and 2nd Saturday Night. Both were run on 1/8 mile format, in the county news article. And some neat pictures, that brings back some memories.

Did you notice also if you enlarge the picture of Strip Teaser that it is from 1992 at Fairmont City, IL, and Curts name is on the car?

Yeah, years ago, many years ago, it used to be the Mike and Greg show, the green Roadrunner and the white Challenger. Both of them with their tunnel rammed big blocks.

Yeah, years ago, many years ago, it used to be the Mike and Greg show, the green Roadrunner and the white Challenger. Both of them with their tunnel rammed big blocks. I did my fair share of damage with my little Vega. We all used to beat on each other pretty hard. I remember when they changed the rules at both Gateway and MAR that said you could only dial up or down 2 tenths because of Bob "The Sandman" Stone. He would dial the same as you and keep a tire on you all the way down the track. Ah the good ole days. Earl and Darrel Keen, Steve McClanahan, Bud Ponze. I remember the first time I raced Jerry Duncan he had those big thick glasses and I thought to myself "this guy's gonna be a piece of cake" strapped a .00 light on my ass and ran dead on. That what I got for thinking. Was going through some stuff the other day and came across a box full of MAR Top-Gun trophies and T-Shirts.

Ahhh, Bob Stone, were you there when Mike Montgomery (Gumby), drove Bob's digger? He knew about the tranny brake, but not the delay box. Matted the car, waited for the last yellow, let go fo the button, nothing happened, relaxed his neck and head, but the car was still matted. About that time the delay box counted off and the car launched, banging mikes head against the cage and causing him to let of the throttle and then hit it again! From where we were, it was funny as hell, Mike got a royal headache out of it, but learned about delay boxes that day!

Was also there the night Mike tried to burn the "Booger" to the ground. The rare night my wife comes to the track and that happened. Still have the divot in my shin and Rick Wors still has the scars. Scary as hell, I thought Wors was dead and I had fire chasing me up my back and arm. Ah the good ole days. I was there when Stone protested Smalleys Maverick accused him of having a photocell someplace on the car, he got pissed when they torn him down in the staging lanes and no one had any tools to tear it down further.

I remember going through his carbs on his kitchen table one day, doing a couple of mods to them to help make the car idle and transition better.
